Jessie's Summer Obsessions

Summer is my favorite time of the year. I love the sun, hanging out by the beach and especially being with my family. It’s also a time when I can slow down a little bit and fuel my creativity.

1. Flowers in Season

Last summer I tried to make a little veggie garden but this summer I decided to switch to a flower garden and it makes me so happy. I have wooden beds I built and painted and they look simple and pretty. I also just planted climbing rose bushes and my first peonies bloomed.

2. Wearing on Repeat

I’m living in my raffia Blaise sandals and my beaded Lilla sandals, I also love our blue gingham Lydie top and the bright red ruched Micah top that just launched. Other things I love are my Rudy Jude jeans, Theodosia necklaces and a bright hand dyed sweater made by my friend Alessandra for her new line Marea Clothing.

3. Kitchen Reno Updates

I’m working with the amazing Zoë Feldman of Zoë Feldman Design on an exciting kitchen reno project. Interiors have really become my second love behind shoes lately and this is such a fun project, which I’m looking forward to documenting along the way. Most recently I’ve been testing little pots of Farrow and Ball paint colors for the project. I just purchased a color wheel from F and B of their archive colors and I love this beautiful and useful tool

4. Podcast Obsessions

Always Terry Gross for me. I put it on every time I get in the car and my kids groan but then I think they end up enjoying it. I’m also totally obsessed with true crime and listen to everything I can get my hands on. There was just an update episode of LISK: Long Island Serial Killer I was glued to.

5. Finding Inspiration

@kateberryberry for beautiful, elegant tablescapes and her incredible rooftop garden

@jessicaantola‘s gorgeous photography

@strawlondon for lovely home goods

@chalkwhitearrow for a stunning home renovation (pictured right)

@drbeckyatgoodinside for practical parenting tips

6. NYC Go-Tos

Of course our beautiful store is my most favorite place in Soho. I am usually there Tuesday or Wednesday mornings and like to chat with customers. Another place I love in the neighborhood: the new Jack’s Wife Freda location that is huge but still cozy and intimate.

7. Game, Set, Match

I’m terrible at tennis but I love it so much. I started to seriously try to learn the game at the end of last summer and I am totally hooked (even though I can’t serve). It’s been a real lesson in perseverance—keeping working on something that I am quite terrible at. We just came out with a tennis skirt I’m excited to wear on the court and off. I love a Wilson racquet and I just got yet another contraption to try to improve my game: the topspin pro.

9. What I'm Reading

A friend took me to see David Sedaris at Kings Theater a few weeks ago. And Sedaris brought a former student who just wrote a memoir on stage to read. I just bought her book and am excited to start it: Mother Noise by Cindy House.

8. Current Crafts

Upcoming crafts I’d like to work on: crepe paper flowers, hand painted tiles and maybe crocheting a top from a vintage pattern bought on Etsy.
